Ensenada road to reopen

AUGUST 26, 2014:  The scenic toll road between Tijuana and Ensenada has been closed since December 28, 2013.  CAPUFE announced that the road should be fully opened by September 15.  Additional repairs will continue through Spring of 2015 to shore up additional sections of the road.  

Tijuana to Ensenada road collapse

A section of the scenic road (toll road) along the coast between Tijuana and Ensenada collapsed on Saturday, December 28.

The collapse occurred closer to Ensenada at km 93 near Salsipuedes. The road collapse is believed to be because of a landslide that occurred beneath the highway and may have been linked to recent earthquake activity in the area.. The road was under repair at the time of the collapse and traffic was sparse and no injuries were reported.

Traffic has been diverted to an inland route along the Transpeninsular highway during the period of repairs which could last more than a year.
